Opening Hours during New Year’s season

The details are as below;

31st Dec.    As Usual (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
1st Jan.    Midnight – 5p.m.
After 2nd Jan.    As Usual (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
※ Visitors may enter up to 15 minutes before the temple closes in each day.

During the period from December 31st to January 3rd, there will be vehicle traffic restrictions in Kamakura, you will not be able to drive your own car to the area around Kotokuin. Please use public transportation when visiting us. For more information on this, please check the following or contact Kamakura City directly (phone number 0467-23-3000).

Period of traffic regulation;
・December 31st, 11:00 p.m. to January 1st, 5:00 p.m.
・January 2nd and 3rd from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

During the period of traffic restrictions, the fixed-route bus and taxi stands at Kamakura Station will be changed.

Regarding entering the interior of the Great Buddha statue during high temperatures

Extremely hot days have been observed this summer as well.
Because the interior of the Great Buddha statue is likely to fill the heat, it becomes high-temperature and humidity than the outside.
Therefore, the day that a heat stroke alert has been issued in Kanagawa Pref., the entry to the interior of the Great Buddha statue will be suspended the afternoon in consideration of visitor’s health and safety.
